I was born in Brighton. My family emigrated to Kenya when I was 9 years old. I completed my schooling and returned to UK in 1961 and trained with a firm of chartered accountants in Brighton. In 1962 I joined RAF Photographic branch and served in the Middle and Far East. I completed my 9 year service and in 1971 I resumed my commercial career in financial services and continue to run a Photographic business as well as a Financial Services firm based in Southend on Sea. I am also active in local politics and have served as a Councillor for some years and am standing as the Conservative candidate in the local elections for Westborough Ward in 2010.
I am married to Elizabeth who is a Southend Councillor and was P.A. to Sir Teddy Taylor in the House of commons. We have two children and five grandchildren. Teddy says I am of "independent mind, conscientious and totally committed to the voters irrespective of their political opinions". A reputation to behold indeed!!
